Cine en el Parque screening of Coco in Mazatlán, Digi Mart USA News (Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico): A thoroughly family-friendly atmosphere filled the central park on Friday night during a screening of the Disney film Coco, part of the Cine en el Parque program promoted by the Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Arts of Mazatlán together with the Municipal Center for the Arts (CMA).
Julio Recinos, head of the cinematography area at the CMA, welcomed attendees and offered a brief overview of the film.
Coco (2017), produced by Pixar Animation Studios, is inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos. The story follows Miguel Rivera, a 12-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a musician but faces a strict family ban on music, imposed generations earlier after his great-great-grandfather abandoned the family to pursue art.
The production has received several awards, including two Academy Awards in 2018, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, among other recognitions.
The central park provided the ideal setting for families to gather and enjoy the event. Dozens of people arrived with chairs, food and blankets, accompanied by children, older adults, couples and even their dogs.
The fresh air under the moon and stars created a pleasant experience for attendees. During the screening, children could be seen socializing with one another, briefly away from their cell phones and enjoying the outdoor activity.
Events like this allow adults to relive memories and give younger children new experiences.
Valeria Astorga, a resident of Mazatlán, said she thought the event was “super good,” as it encourages children to leave home, socialize and enjoy the open air.
Ishikawa Kushida, of Asian descent, said it was her first time seeing the film. She said she had learned about the program at a previous edition she had attended and enjoyed it.
She also said this kind of activity is very comfortable, allowing people to watch a film under the stars in a way that differs from the traditional movie theater experience.
Finally, Jorge Lezama, originally from Mexico City, said events like this are wonderful because they allow people to spend time with loved ones and enjoy the company of their pets.
