Gerhard Porsche death at age 88, Digi Mart USA News (Salzburg, Austria): Mourning has settled over one of Germany’s most famous entrepreneurial families. Gerhard Porsche has died at the age of 88, according to a report on the Porsche family’s death notice.

Gerhard Porsche was the son of Ferry Porsche, who died at 88, and the grandson of automotive pioneer Ferdinand Porsche, who died at 75. He died on October 30, according to the report.

The Kronen Zeitung, citing the family’s death notice, reported that he died “surrounded by his beloved family.” No cause of death was given.

Gerhard Porsche belonged to the third generation of the Porsche dynasty. His grandfather Ferdinand Porsche was the legendary automobile designer and founder of the family business, while his father Ferry Porsche founded the Porsche sports car brand.

He was also the brother of Wolfgang Porsche, 83, one of the family’s best-known figures.

Unlike his brother, Gerhard Porsche rarely stood in the spotlight. He felt especially connected to the Metnitz Valley in Carinthia, where he maintained a second residence and invested in the small community over many years.

He is survived by his wife Iris, his daughters and his family.

A private farewell is planned for November 17 in Thalgau.

The Porsche company’s history dates back to 1931, when Ferdinand Porsche founded a design office in Stuttgart with two partners. After World War II, his son Ferry Porsche turned it into a sports car manufacturer.

In 1948, the Porsche 356 became the first car to bear the family name. The company later developed into one of the world’s most famous sports car brands, whose best-known model remains the Porsche 911.
