Alberto Contador on Jonas Vingegaard as a rival: The Spanish cycling legend says Vingegaard would have been a formidable opponent, praising his consistency while noting the difficulty of beating Tadej Pogacar, who has won the Tour de France in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Alberto Contador on Jonas Vingegaard as a rival, Digi Mart USA News: Spanish cycling legend Alberto Contador has offered a frank assessment of Danish star Jonas Vingegaard, saying he would have been a terrifying rival.

Speaking to the Danish outlet Feltet.dk after a talk held Wednesday evening at Børkop Cykler, Contador was asked about Vingegaard. “He is an incredibly good rider.

If I were still active and had Vingegaard as my rival? Whooosh!

He makes no mistakes, that one. Sometimes there may be days when he doesn’t feel good, but you don’t know that as a competitor,” Contador said.

Vingegaard still faces a formidable challenge in Slovenian superstar Tadej Pogacar. Pogacar has won the Tour de France in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and Vingegaard was forced to abandon this year’s edition after a crash.

According to Contador, Vingegaard is unlikely to lack motivation in trying to unseat his Slovenian rival. However, the former Tour champion said candidly that beating Pogacar and regaining the Tour de France title will be an extremely difficult task for the Dane.
