Lyon Edouard-Herriot high school gate fire, Digi Mart USA News (Lyon, France): Violence broke out on Friday morning at Place Edgar-Quinet in Lyon’s 6th arrondissement. A fire caused significant damage to the door and facade of the Édouard-Herriot high school.
Massive flames engulfed the door and then the facade of the school, according to images filmed by numerous young people that morning. The publisher describes the scene as impressive.
Following the recent student movement in recent weeks, actions were again carried out on Friday morning at certain establishments in the metropolitan area, notably at Colbert and Lumière (8th arrondissement).
In the 6th arrondissement, however, the disturbances were major. Garbage bins and electric scooters were gathered, piled up and set on fire in front of the main entrance of the Herriot high school.
The fire quickly spread to the facade.
As a result, students who had been in class were forced to evacuate the building urgently. According to the publisher’s information, no one was injured.
Firefighters intervened to contain the blaze and secure the area.
A vice-president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and sub-prefect Ottman Zaïr were expected to go to the site to support the teaching staff, who had already been targeted by mortar fire at the start of the movement.
Samuel Soulier, Horizons mayor of Lyon’s 6th arrondissement, reacted on Facebook, writing that Herriot was burning with students inside and that some were celebrating, and saying he had no words to express his deep indignation. Alexandre Dupalais, UDR councillor of the 8th arrondissement, posted on X that the perpetrators must be arrested, tried and convicted, and that those who excuse this violence must answer for it.
