Ida Gabrielsson interview, Digi Mart USA News (Sweden): Left Party deputy leader Ida Gabrielsson’s provocative interview in DN could have major consequences for government formation, according to commentators at DN and SVT.
SVT’s Mats Knutson notes that the interview has angered Centre Party members. Andersson, he suggests, surely realizes that if talks between the red-green parties are at a sensitive stage, this kind of escalating conflict between C and V could disrupt them.
Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson, who currently holds the exploratory mandate, would prefer above all to draw the Centre Party over, Knutson says. The situation could benefit him and make it harder for Andersson to assemble her government base.
DN’s Tomas Ramberg writes that Gabrielsson’s “unpolished jargon” is striking back at her party in a hypersensitive moment. It makes no difference that the interview was conducted nearly two weeks ago; the timing is poor.
The move comes just as the Centre Party leadership has begun to get used to the idea that government formation will require concessions to the Left Party, he writes. The Centre Party’s negotiating position has now improved, since it can point to the Left Party’s immaturity while being defended by the Social Democrats.
“If any agreement is to be reached, all the parties involved need to appear both winners and losers.”
