Three-Way Tie Could Force Coin Flip to Decide Final District A-II-3 Playoff Spots

District A-II-3 playoff tiebreaker coin flip: Liberty, Central Sallisaw and Gore are in a race for the final two Oklahoma high school football playoff spots, and Friday night's regular-season finales could settle the outcome or send it to a coin flip.

District A-II-3 playoff tiebreaker coin flip, Digi Mart USA News (Oklahoma): With three teams still in the mix for the final two playoff spots, Oklahoma high school football in District A-II-3 could be headed for one of its most unusual tiebreakers this week.

Liberty sits alone in third place, while Central Sallisaw and Gore are tied for fourth. With all three teams still able to finish tied, the district standings could hinge on Friday night’s regular-season finales.

Liberty faces undefeated Talihina, Central Sallisaw plays Porter, and Gore takes on Mounds.

If Central Sallisaw and Gore both win and Liberty loses, the district would end in a three-way tie for third place. Oklahoma sends only the top four teams from each district to the playoffs, meaning one of the three schools would be left out.

After head-to-head results and point differential are applied, the tiebreaker could come down to a coin flip. If that happens, the three head coaches will meet with an OSSAA representative at Catfish Round Up near Seminole around midnight.

Each coach would flip a coin representing the school’s primary color, with two teams advancing based on the results. The OSSAA has also said the potential coin flip would be streamed live on its Facebook page.

While it is not how any team wants its season decided, the scenario underscores the stakes of Friday night, when one set of results could keep playoff hopes alive for two teams and end the season for another.
