Spite for Strays cat rescue fundraiser Saskatchewan, Digi Mart USA News (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan): A recently divorced Saskatchewan woman is turning spite into support for rescue cats. In a social media post, Saskatoon-based SOS Prairie Rescue, which describes itself as a volunteer-run, community-funded and foster-based cat rescue organization across Saskatchewan, B.C.

and Manitoba, said an anonymous woman approached the group with $10,000, a wicked sense of humor and a level of post-marital pettiness the group said it could only aspire to.

The woman says she will match donations to SOS dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000. “Her motivation?

Apparently, spending this particular money on rescue cats would really piss off her ex-husband,” SOS Prairie Rescue said in the post. The rescue is calling the fundraiser “Spite for Strays” and is encouraging the community to donate until Dec. 1.

The goal is to raise $10,000, which the anonymous donor will match, bringing the total to $20,000.

“We’re not marriage counsellors. We’re cat rescuers.

We’re wildly underqualified to participate in anyone’s divorce proceedings, but we DO have an alarming number of veterinary invoices and a very enthusiastic appreciation for this woman’s priorities,” SOS added. “Frankly, if a little marital spite can turn into $20,000 for cats who need us, we’re prepared to support this particular coping mechanism wholeheartedly.”

SOS said all money raised will be used to fund rescue cats’ veterinary bills. The rescue closed the Facebook post with a humorous dig at the woman’s ex.

“We’d send him a thank-you card, but something tells us it wouldn’t be appreciated.”

Those wishing to donate to Spite for Strays can do so through the organization’s donation link, or by sending an e-transfer to emt@sosprairierescue.com.
