Danish electricity prices Dunkelflaute weather, Digi Mart USA News (Denmark): Electricity prices in Denmark have not been this expensive since December 2022. The cause is a weather phenomenon known as Dunkelflaute, which has been over the country for some time.

Dunkelflaute is characterized by wind and sun producing only limited output over several days. As a result, neither wind turbines nor solar cells generate much electricity, and power prices rise sharply.

According to utility Norlys, in a press release, the weekly pure electricity price rose to 1.8 kroner per kWh in West Denmark and 2 kroner per kWh in East Denmark. That is the highest level since week 51 of 2022, when the pure electricity price reached 2.9 kroner per kWh in both regions.

Prices are still rising. For Sunday, the pure electricity price is expected to peak at 2.4 kroner per kWh in West Denmark and 2.6 kroner per kWh in East Denmark at around 7 p.m.
