He said the team has good feelings but that it will be a difficult game, and that Atlético will try to win as it always does.

Asked whether the matter with Barcelona had been resolved, Cerezo said the Julián issue was settled at the time, and that the club had said what it needed to say. He added that Julián must now show his quality on the pitch, and that relations with Barcelona are good, as they are with all clubs in Spain’s professional and regional divisions.

On the fans, Cerezo said supporters are sovereign and will say what they want, but that for the club the issue is completely closed. Asked whether a goal would be Julián’s best apology, he replied: “Not one goal, two.”

Cerezo said he hopes the players rise to the occasion and that Atlético has been league leader many times before, adding that there is still a long way to go. Asked whether it is better to go into the break as leaders, he said it is.

On whether he would speak with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Cerezo said he has spoken with him every year during their tenures and saw no reason not to do so that day. On facing Barcelona twice in less than a month, he said the calendar draw is what it is.

Cerezo called Barcelona one of the best teams in Europe, if not the best, and said Atlético is competing with them in the league for now. Asked about the NFL at the Metropolitano stadium, he said the club has many commitments with the venue and was not sure it could accept any more.
