Thorsten Frei Germany reform push, Digi Mart USA News (Germany): Thorsten Frei, parliamentary group leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the Bundestag, is pushing for faster progress on reforms as the year draws to a close. In an interview with the publication Rheinische Post, he said, “We must push through now.”
The Bundestag has four remaining session weeks this year, and the coalition committee is set to meet in mid-November. Frei said he could well understand that many people already feel their everyday burdens are very high.
He acknowledged that many people cannot tighten their belts any further. Frei nonetheless argued that the economy is improving and that real wages are rising.
Frei also said Germany has recorded no economic growth for more than seven years, which he attributed partly to what he described as a misguided economic policy of the former traffic-light coalition government.
