Meghan Markle’s Hollywood Reputation Under Strain as Netflix Tensions Mount

Meghan Markle Hollywood career and Netflix relationship: Royal commentators say the Duchess of Sussex's entertainment reputation is weakening after Netflix withdrew from her As Ever project, the cancellation of her lifestyle series and reported tensions with the streamer over casting speculation.

Meghan Markle Hollywood career and Netflix relationship, Digi Mart USA News: Meghan Markle’s Hollywood reputation is under strain as her latest career moves raise questions about her future in entertainment, according to a Page Six report citing multiple sources.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Page Six, “I think we’re watching the Sussexes’ Hollywood partnership unravel in real time.” She noted that Netflix has already withdrawn from As Ever, that Markle has lost one of her most influential supporters at the company, and that her camp now appears willing to publicly criticize the streamer.

Schofield, host of the “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered” podcast, described the latest episode as pointing to a “deteriorating relationship” with Netflix, which has backed several of the couple’s projects. Branding expert Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, said Markle’s upcoming guest appearance on “Junior MasterChef Australia” highlights her diminished standing in Hollywood.

He described it as an entry-level project that gives her something to talk about but reflects how weakened her career has become.

Schiffer was referring to Markle’s lifestyle series “With Love, Meghan,” which was canceled after two seasons earlier this year. Page Six confirmed last week that Markle will appear as a “special guest” alongside host Poh Ling Yeow when the show returns from a six-year hiatus in 2027.

Yeow has defended the casting decision, praising Markle’s “will of steel” and expressing her “admiration” for the duchess.

The criticism comes as Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship with Netflix has reportedly grown tense. Last month, sources close to Markle claimed she felt “used” by the streaming service after rumors circulated that she was being considered for a role in Guy Ritchie’s crime drama “The Gentlemen.” A friend of Markle told the Telegraph that some in her camp believed she was used to help promote Season 2.

Page Six Hollywood previously reported there was never an offer on the table.

Schofield questioned why Markle’s camp would publicly criticize a key commercial partner if the couple still has projects with the streamer in development. She also pointed to the departure of Netflix executive Bela Bajaria, whom Markle previously credited with the idea for “With Love, Meghan.”

Netflix ended its partnership with Markle’s As Ever lifestyle brand in March. Page Six also reported last month that the couple’s Archewell Productions has reduced staff over the past 12 to 18 months, and that only a handful of employees remain in its Los Angeles office despite the Sussexes relocating to the UK in August.

Page Six also reported that the Sussexes’ Netflix films “Meet Me at the Lake” and “The Wedding Date” remain “in development,” and an industry source said the pace of these projects is standard practice. Separately, news broke this week that Chanel Pysnik, Archewell Productions’ longtime head of nonfiction, had exited the company.

The professional setbacks have coincided with a difficult personal period for the couple. Markle, 45, and Harry, 42, received a warm welcome in Nottingham last month during their first official joint appearance since returning to the UK.

Days later, news broke that Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., was under investigation for allegedly possessing child pornography, allegations he has vehemently denied. The Daily Mail subsequently reported that additional explicit images of children had been discovered in his abandoned storage unit in Mexico.

Page Six confirmed the Sussexes’ overseas trip had been planned around their children’s school break.

Schiffer believes the couple will continue to distance themselves from Thomas Markle Sr., who has been estranged since 2018, while navigating their next public moves. Schofield said the Sussexes may be overestimating the goodwill generated by their return to the UK.

Page Six has reached out to Meghan and Harry’s representatives for comment.
