Gonzalo Moratorio tribute by widow Natalia Ibáñez, Digi Mart USA News (Uruguay): Natalia Ibáñez said that the passion with which her husband Gonzalo Moratorio lived was the same passion that accompanied him during his illness, and that he fought with a strength and courage that still surprise her.
“He never stopped being himself, even in the most difficult moments,” she said. “Fighting does not necessarily mean defeating an illness; sometimes fighting means getting through it with dignity, making decisions, keeping autonomy for as long as possible, and, when the time comes, being able to rest and be with the people one loves.”
Ibáñez thanked her husband for the time they shared. “I could not be more grateful for having shared my life with him.
The time we had together was not long, but it was very intense. Being his partner, sharing his dreams, his crazy ideas and his projects, and building a family with him is one of the greatest gifts life has given me.”
She described Moratorio as someone who lived with extraordinary intensity. “Gonza had an extraordinary way of living.
His smile, his great ability to make us laugh, his ideals, his convictions, and the way he gave himself completely to everything he did. He lived with a passion that is hard to describe.
Everyone who knew him knows he was a deeply passionate man in his work and with his family and loved ones.”
Ibáñez also thanked everyone who accompanied Moratorio and made him laugh when he needed it most. She said she wanted to highlight the value of science in Uruguay.
“Gonza believed deeply in science as a tool to transform reality, improve people’s lives and build a better country. He believed in the talent that exists in Uruguay, in our researchers and young scientists, and in the importance of creating opportunities for them to develop here.
He believed knowledge must serve society.”
Regarding Abril, the daughter they have together, Ibáñez said that although she will not be able to have him physically beside her, she will always find him in his achievements, in the mark he left, in his friends, in his stories and in every corner of the home.
