French student dengue death Vietnam, Digi Mart USA News: Mathis Blondeau, 23, died on October 27, the Rugby club quimpérois announced on Facebook on Friday. The club said the student from Finistère died from complications of dengue, a virus transmitted to humans by the tiger mosquito.

He was staying in Vietnam when the events occurred, according to Ouest-France. The stay was part of a longer journey through Southeast Asia that had included a visit to Bali, Indonesia.

A student at Inseec, a business school in Lyon, Blondeau had just been admitted to a Master 2 program and was beginning a gap year after five years of study. He planned to rest before returning to France to look for work.

A dedicated athlete, Blondeau had developed a passion for rugby, which he shared with his father, a member of the steering committee of the Rugby club quimpérois. Club president Jean-Paul Mongeat said Blondeau was a club product, having played from the school team through the senior ranks and for the Brittany regional team.

Mongeat described Blondeau as having “a leader’s character” and said he was known for his joy of life, warmth, humor and generosity toward others. “Mathis was a boy who loved and was loved by everyone,” he said.

A minute of silence and applause in his honor will be held next Sunday at 3 p.m. before the Fédérale 3 derby against Concarneau, the club said.

The young man’s family will attend the match at the stadium.
