That is reason enough for Alinea Analytics to look at the commercially most successful PlayStation games of the current generation and publish several notable and impressive statistics.
The PS5 celebrates its sixth anniversary this month, and the PS6 and the next generation are slowly casting their shadows. Sony recently confirmed in its current business report that work on the next-generation console is fully on schedule.
Alinea Analytics has now looked back and determined which first- and second-party titles published under the PlayStation Studios label have generated the most revenue this generation. The top spots, based on Alinea Analytics estimates, are unsurprisingly occupied by Sony’s strongest franchises.
God of War Ragnarök ranks first with total revenue of 1.4 billion US dollars and 21.6 million units sold. The adventure of Kratos and Atreus is also a lasting seller: in 2026 alone, the game sold another 1.1 million copies, even though it has been available in the PS Plus Extra catalog for some time.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac takes second place with 1.3 billion US dollars from 19.1 million sales. Holiday sales and the hype surrounding the cinema blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day repeatedly produced noticeable sales peaks.
Gran Turismo 7 takes the bronze medal, generating 841.9 million US dollars in revenue and 12.7 million sales. As usual, the racing game remains a stable pillar of Sony’s lineup and still has a large active community years after launch.
Right behind the top three, Helldivers 2 from Arrowhead Games is the most successful second-party title on the list, placing fourth. The cooperative shooter earned 786.3 million US dollars from an estimated 23 million copies sold.
Because of its simultaneous PC release, 66.1 percent of its sales come from Steam.
Horizon Forbidden West closes out the first half of the ranking in fifth place with revenue of 485.8 million US dollars. Alinea analysts note that its very early inclusion in the PS Plus subscription noticeably slowed sales momentum.
The rest of the top 10 consists of a familiar mix of strong story-driven blockbusters, surprise hits and platformers.
In total, the ten most successful PlayStation games of this generation brought in an estimated 6.5 billion US dollars for Sony, according to Alinea Analytics.
The bulk, 84.7 percent, comes as expected from PlayStation consoles. PC releases via Steam added another 14.1 percent, while Xbox, thanks to the release of Helldivers 2, accounted for 1.2 percent of total revenue.
The current generation is not over yet. Until Dawn 2 and the recently postponed God of War Laufey are already lined up as next year’s PlayStation highlights.
Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is also still to come, which may give the PS5 era a fitting conclusion.
