Monty Don final Gardeners’ World episode, Digi Mart USA News (Longmeadow, UK): BBC Gardeners’ World marked the end of an era on Friday, November 6, as Monty Don made his last appearance as the longest-serving Head Gardener on the series.
Signing off from Longmeadow, the garden he has shared with the nation for the past 16 years, Monty delivered a heartfelt farewell reflecting on more than two decades of bringing his gardening life into homes across the UK.
With his beloved dog Ned by his side, Monty thanked viewers for joining him on his gardening journey. He reflected on the gardens, people and dogs that shaped his time on the series before bidding a final farewell.
Speaking on the programme, Monty Don said: “From myself, Ned, and Longmeadow it’s the final goodbye. I first began presenting Gardeners’ World 23 years ago at Berryfields and we came here to Longmeadow 16 years ago, and in that time things have changed.
“The garden has grown, Nigel has been and gone and Nellie and Pattie. But there has been one constant factor, and that has been the incredible privilege and pleasure of sharing my garden and my gardening life with you here, as well as working with so many superb people.
“So, thank you. Thank you for coming on that journey with me and good luck with your own gardens in the future.
So, for the last time. Goodbye.”
Monty also confirmed in the episode that he will remain part of the presenting line-up for next year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. He will also feature in two of the Winter Specials airing between now and Christmas, including a special celebratory episode in which he will look back on his years presenting the series and reflect on the many changes he has seen at Longmeadow during much of that time.
Details of the next series of BBC Gardeners’ World will be announced at a later date.
BBC Gardeners’ World is produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
