Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson departure, Digi Mart USA News (north Wales): Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson has left the club after two years in the role, with director Shaun Harvey taking over as acting CEO. Williamson joined the north Wales side in 2024 after previous roles at Inter Milan and DC United.
His departure follows a period in which the club won promotion from League One into the Championship under co-chairmen Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds. In a joint statement, Mac and Reynolds thanked Williamson for his contribution to the club’s rapid rise up the English football pyramid.
“We thank Michael Williamson for his two years at Wrexham and for his work taking the club from League One to the Championship,” the co-chairmen said. “Since our takeover five years ago, Wrexham have had historic success on the pitch and won hearts all over the globe.
We remain focused on our most important task: to make the Wrexham community proud.”
During Williamson’s tenure, the club oversaw work to expand the Racecourse’s capacity with the installation of the new Kop stand. The club has recently faced criticism after being fined by the English Football League (EFL) for naming ineligible players in their matchday squads.
Shaun Harvey, a former chief executive of the EFL and Leeds United, has been involved with Wrexham’s executive board as an advisor since the Hollywood duo completed their takeover in 2021. He had stepped away from some of his duties during a boardroom shake-up at the start of the season, becoming a non-executive director.
Harvey will now take Williamson’s place on an interim basis. The club has not yet specified a timeframe for appointing a permanent successor.
Mac and Reynolds added: “Shaun Harvey has been an integral part of this journey from the beginning, and we know Shaun will give every support to Phil Parkinson and the lads on the pitch while keeping the broader Wrexham community roaring us on.”
