Young Boys win 3-2 at Luzern with late Samuel Essende goal, Digi Mart USA News (Luzern, Switzerland): Young Boys responded to their first league defeat of the season, a 5-3 loss to FCZ, by winning 3-2 in Luzern. The Bern side needed a large dose of fortune and once again relied on Samuel Essende, the league’s top scorer, who struck in the 92nd minute for his 15th goal of the season to make it 3-2.

The victory was not secure until the final whistle. Two minutes after Luzern had equalized, Lewin Winkler celebrated the goal, but a narrow offside position had preceded it, and the 3-2 scoreline stood.

The result temporarily reduces Young Boys’ deficit to leaders Lugano to six points.

The first half produced few highlights on the heavy pitch but offered a lesson in the rules. Around 20 minutes in, Luzern goalkeeper Karlo Letica took so long with a goal kick that referee Luca Cibelli applied the 8-second rule, which has been in force since the 2025/26 season, and awarded a corner to Young Boys.

Shortly after the corner, Christian Fassnacht was in the right place to meet a rebound and gave Young Boys a 1-0 lead.

Young Boys were unable to take their advantage into halftime. Cibelli, with video assistant referee support, judged a foul by Moritz Jenz on Daniel Mikolajewski inside the penalty area to be a penalty.

Matteo Di Giusto converted it confidently in the 38th minute to make it 1-1.

After the break, Luzern controlled possession at first, but Young Boys took the lead again. Bahereba Guirassy scored in the 64th minute, somewhat fortunately, to make it 2-1, after Luzern had failed in several attempts to clear the ball from danger.

In the 81st minute, Essende, who had been largely quiet until then, had the chance to seal the win but failed to convert a counterattack opportunity to make it 3-1. Luzern immediately countered, and Winkler’s deflected shot beat Young Boys goalkeeper Marwin Keller, who was powerless to stop it, to make it 2-2.

Essende’s late goal nevertheless gave the Bern side the win.

Because of the international break, the league is suspended this coming weekend. Young Boys face Thun in the Bern derby on Saturday, November 21, while Luzern travel to FC Basel the following day.
