Team Esbjerg vs FTC-Toyota Kovács EHF Champions League, Digi Mart USA News: Blue Water Dokken is set to host the season’s biggest match on Sunday, when Hungarian side FTC-Toyota Kovács visits Team Esbjerg in the EHF Champions League. The game is a clash between the first- and second-placed teams in the group stage.

The match also brings back several former club favorites to Gl. Vardevej.

Michala Møller, Mette Tranborg, Anna Kristensen and Vilde Mortensen Ingstad now all wear the FTC jersey. Jesper Jensen, who leads the current squad and will return to lead Team Esbjerg from next season, is also part of the story.

A win on Sunday would allow Team Esbjerg to move to the top of the group and open a four-point gap over second place at the halfway point of the group stage. Much is at stake, and the reunion with former players could make for a dramatic contest.

FTC has a strong squad and is well positioned to take one of the two direct quarterfinal spots, which gives head coach Tomas Axnér a considerable task.

“We are going to play against a team with extraordinarily good players. We have therefore had many points of focus ahead of the match.

We have spent some extra time on our defense, and we have a clear idea of how we want to play our attack,” says Tomas Axnér.

Axnér has previously said he enjoys matches where a lot is on the line, and he hopes that attitude will spread to his team. “These are the matches where you can measure yourself against the best.

These are two top teams, so it also brings some extra prestige, and there is always a good atmosphere for them. Now we play at home, and we want to show that we have the level the other top teams have,” he says.

Home advantage is expected to be decisive. Blue Water Dokken is expected to be full on Sunday, and Axnér hopes the crowd can help the team in key moments.

“There are always periods in a match where we need the spectators even more, where they can give us an extra boost. Blue Water Dokken is usually good at that.

I also think they are looking forward to this match as much as we are, so they will certainly be there,” says Axnér.
