Martin Ødegaard Arsenal 1-0 win over Hull City Premier League, Digi Mart USA News (London): Arsenal looked uncertain at home against newly promoted Hull City until Martin Ødegaard appeared. The Norwegian was alert when he picked up a rebound from the keeper and calmly lobbed the ball in from close range to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead and three points.
It was Ødegaard’s 47th goal since joining Arsenal in 2021. The winning goal came after sustained Arsenal pressure, although Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis made a series of saves that kept the visitors in the game for long stretches.
Viaplay commentator Eivind Bisgaard Sundet said Ødegaard had shown how important he can be on a day when not everything went Arsenal’s way.
After a prolific start to the season, Ødegaard had gone without scoring recently. His previous goal for Arsenal, the team’s captain, came on September 9 against Napoli.
The win was Arsenal’s ninth of the season and opened a six-point gap over Manchester City, who play later on Saturday. The defending champions currently have 27 points from their first ten matches.
Ødegaard and the rest of the Premier League players now face a two-week international break. Norway host Wales on November 14 before playing Denmark away on November 17.
Arsenal led for most of the match, but the league leaders struggled to create clear chances. The closest efforts in the first half came from Declan Rice, whose header went straight at the keeper, and Christos Tzolis, whose volley sailed well over the bar.
Hull also posed danger on the counterattack, and Swedish forward Elliot Stroud came close to scoring when he tested David Raya from just over 12 meters.
Arsenal came out strongly after halftime, but the breakthrough did not arrive until the 72nd minute, when Ødegaard scored to reward their efforts.
Noni Madueke had a chance to make it 2-0 late on but could not get past Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
The result ended 1-0 to Arsenal, their fourth 1-0 win in the Premier League this season.
