Bundesliga weekend results: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig win, Augsburg loses heavily, Digi Mart USA News (Germany): Bayern Munich won 2-1 away at Urs Fischer’s Mainz on Saturday afternoon, while Borussia Dortmund also beat promoted side Elversberg 2-1 and remain level on points with the leaders in second place. RB Leipzig moved up to third with a 5-2 win over Fabian Rieder’s Augsburg.

Bayern had to pay a heavy price for their victory in Mainz. Star goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was injured shortly before halftime and had to be replaced by Jonas Urbig.

Joshua Kimmich had given the visitors the lead after a quarter of an hour.

The technically superior Bayern side were rewarded after the break, when Lennart Karl doubled the lead to 2-0 after an hour. Phillip Tietz pulled one back for Mainz with a goal in stoppage time, but it came too late for Fischer’s competitive team.

Dortmund also secured a hard-fought win. The team of Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel beat Elversberg 2-1 in a contested match.

After a goalless first half, Felix Nmecha scored twice in the second half to give the hosts the win. Noel Futkeu reduced the deficit late on for Elversberg, but the score remained 2-1.

Dortmund’s sixth win in nine matches keeps them within touching distance of Bayern.

Augsburg got off to a perfect start in Leipzig. Anton Kade, a former Basel player, gave the visitors the lead in the first minute at the Red Bull Arena after a clinical finish following an Ibrahimović shot.

Leipzig responded quickly, though. Ezechiel Banzuzi and Christopher Nkunku scored within a few minutes of each other around the half-hour mark to turn the game 2-1, and David Raum made it 3-1 with a free kick just before halftime.

After the restart, Romulo and substitute Christoph Baumgartner scored within six minutes to make it 5-1. Ogundu scored a late consolation in stoppage time, and the match finished 5-2.
