Brazilian drivers Rafael Camara and Gabriel Bortoleto Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, Digi Mart USA News (São Paulo, Brazil): For the first time in ten years, two Brazilian drivers will start a Formula 1 race this weekend. The appearance comes at the sport’s largest race outside Europe, where fans have long hoped for a return to past glory.
Brazilian drivers have won a grand prix 101 times, and the last Brazilian winner was Rubens Barrichello in 2009. Hopes for the future now rest on 21-year-old Rafael Camara and 22-year-old Gabriel Bortoleto.
Camara makes his debut at the Brazilian Grand Prix with Haas as a replacement for Esteban Ocon, who has been removed from the team. He currently leads the Formula 2 standings and will take over Ocon’s seat permanently next year.
“I never thought I would be able to drive my first Formula 1 race in Brazil. It is the first time I drive a F1 car here.
The last time I came here, I was karting.”
