Banfield sanctioned by APreViDe after incidents in Lanús classic, Digi Mart USA News (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina): The Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport (APreViDe) of the Province of Buenos Aires has set a penalty for Club Atlético Banfield following incidents during the clásico against Lanús. The Osvaldo Fani stand will have its capacity reduced by half for the club’s next home match at Florencio Sola.
Beyond the capacity limit, the agency has made official the entry conditions for the next match. Musical instruments will be permitted, but the only flags authorized will be those with straps (“tirantes”).
The resolution details the events that led to the sanction. During the match against Lanús, play had to be interrupted several times.
A smoke bomb was thrown from the popular stand and struck the visiting goalkeeper directly, and flares were set off and objects were thrown from the Valentín Suárez stand toward the Granate players.
APreViDe has ordered the club to immediately repair failures in the security camera system of the Osvaldo Fani stand. The institution must prove that the system is working properly before the next game.
At the same time, the agency is working to identify those responsible in order to impose stadium entry bans and forward the evidence collected to the courts.
While the agency defends chants and club colors as part of football’s identity, it stressed that throwing objects onto the playing field endangers players, staff and the fans themselves.
“Throwing a molotov cocktail is an act of extreme gravity that can cost lives,” the agency warned, closing its statement with a position of zero tolerance toward these events.
