Productivity Commission industrial relations review, Digi Mart USA News: The Albanese government has defended its decision to block the Productivity Commission from examining the impact on business of its controversial industrial relations laws. The government said it had already commissioned its own review and found nothing untoward.

Business, economists and the opposition expressed disbelief that the government could order a review into improving business dynamism while ruling out both industrial relations and tax. The objections focused on the exclusion of these two areas from the inquiry.

Assistant Minister for Treasury Andrew Leigh pointed to department reviews the government commissioned during the same term in which the industrial relations laws were introduced. He presented those reviews as the government’s answer to concerns about the laws’ effect on business.
