US government donates high-tech K9 transport vehicles to Mexico State security secretariat, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico State, Mexico): Under bilateral cooperation between the governments of Mexico and the United States, the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) formally donated two vehicles equipped with canine transport systems to strengthen the Penitentiary Canine Unit of the State of Mexico, which belongs to the Undersecretariat of Penitentiary Control.
Rafael Ángel González Uscanga, Director General of Prevention and Social Reintegration, spoke on behalf of State Security Secretary Cristóbal Castañeda Camarillo. He said the two units consolidate the operational and institutional capacities of the Undersecretariat and help care for the dogs during transport.
He noted that the dogs work daily alongside officers to prevent prohibited items and substances from entering the state’s prison facilities.
González Uscanga thanked the U.S. Embassy and the INL’s counternarcotics and law enforcement office for their collaboration with the State of Mexico government.
He said the two units will become fully operational for their intended use with canine agents, which he described as very important for the state’s penitentiary system.
Before the handover, Lizbeth Sainz de la Rosa, a logistics analyst with the INL office, inspected both units, verified they were in optimal condition and placed a tracking label on each vehicle so the donated trucks could be monitored for exclusive use by canine teams. She stated that the goal is to ensure the vehicles are used for the canine unit and the transport of dogs.
Two vehicle invoices, issued in the name of the U.S. Embassy, were presented at the event and endorsed in the name of the Government of the State of Mexico.
The units are designed to INL standards to protect the safety and comfort of the canine teams during transport and operational deployments.
The rear seat area of each truck features an advanced ventilation system designed to maintain optimal, constant airflow for the dog’s transport compartment. The vehicles are also equipped with temperature monitoring and continuous control devices intended to prevent heat stroke or harmful temperature variations.
Each vehicle also includes a reinforced safety partition that separates the animal’s compartment, along with emergency release mechanisms and rapid-opening systems to protect the dogs in critical situations.
