Kimi Antonelli Brazilian Grand Prix milestones after Mexico title, Digi Mart USA News: Kimi Antonelli does not want his coronation at the Mexican Grand Prix to be the only historic moment of his 2026 season. The Italian will arrive at Interlagos for the Brazilian Grand Prix with two important objectives, both personal and for Mercedes, which is still fighting to secure the constructors’ championship.
After winning the world title on Mexican soil, Antonelli will seek to become the first Italian driver to win the Brazilian Grand Prix since 2003. That year Giancarlo Fisichella took victory with Jordan, meaning 23 years have passed without an Italian driver reaching the top step of the podium at Interlagos.
The second objective directly involves Mercedes, which wants to regain prominence at one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar. Mercedes’ last win in Brazil came in 2022, when George Russell earned his first Formula 1 victory, and the team is looking to end that drought.
Although Antonelli has already secured the drivers’ championship, Mercedes cannot yet celebrate the constructors’ title. After 19 rounds, the German team leads the standings with 630 points, but Ferrari retains a mathematical chance of catching them in the final races of the season.
With the drivers’ championship in hand, Antonelli can focus on closing the year with more victories and continuing to build his legacy in the top category. Winning at Interlagos would end a 23-year wait for Italy and, at the same time, return Mercedes to the top step of the Brazilian podium after four seasons.
