Peter Boghossian: In France, Voters Don’t Shift Left-to-Right Because the Economy Worsens; in the US, They Do

US midterm elections Republican losses cost of living: Exit polls show nine in 10 voters called the cost of living a major or crucial factor, and two-thirds blamed Trump policies for rising prices, according to political strategist Peter Boghossian in an interview with Le Figaro.

US midterm elections Republican losses cost of living, Digi Mart USA News: Le Figaro asked whether the Republican defeat in the midterm elections reflects support for the Democratic program or a rejection of the party in power. Peter Boghossian answered by recalling James Carville’s famous line from Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign: “It’s the economy, stupid.”

According to exit polls cited by Boghossian, nine in 10 voters considered the cost of living a major or crucial factor, and two-thirds blamed Trump’s policies for rising prices. Other issues, including the war in Iran, government corruption and immigration, played a much smaller role.

Boghossian argued that most Americans would trade their allegiance to a political party for economic prosperity. He said that if people felt financially healthy, Trump’s ego, tariffs, the war and weak candidates would matter far less.

Boghossian contrasted this with France, where he said voters do not move from left to right simply because economic conditions deteriorate. The interview was published by Le Figaro and has not been independently verified.
