Ile-de-France high school renovation priority list, Digi Mart USA News (Ile-de-France, France): France’s Ministry of National Education on Tuesday released a list of 200 high schools to be renovated as a priority, including 31 in the Ile-de-France region, as part of a 4 billion euro plan announced to students.
According to the report, the list was compiled from contributions submitted by students through a grievance platform made available to them, as explained by Minister of National Education Edouard Geffray during an interview on France Inter on Monday. The plan is to be financed through an increase in the ceiling of the Livret A savings account.
Regional leaders, who are responsible for high school infrastructure, were not consulted before the list was decided at the ministry level. Several regional presidents criticized the method and expressed their objections in a letter addressed to the minister.
The list is published on the website of the Banque des territoires. The source also reports that police prefectures in Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Hauts-de-Seine have issued multiple orders banning gatherings near schools in recent days to prevent blockades.
