In an interview with Society, published November 5, the 55-year-old, who revealed his bipolar disorder on the program Intérieur nuit, described the difficulties he still faces and the support of his partner.

“Things are not going very well at the moment,” he admitted. For two months he has been experiencing a “mixed phase,” in which euphoric episodes alternate with depressive moments, sometimes within the same day.

Despite his new radio show, Recto Verso, broadcast on weekends at 9:10 a.m., he keeps the schedule of a morning host and still wakes at 3:15 a.m.

“That is when the mixed state begins. An infernal loop: fatigue, depression, rise, descent,” he described.

The situation has led him to limit his outings: “I go out little, I try to reduce the surface of contact with reality. It is too painful otherwise.”

His partner adjusts her behavior to the most difficult periods. Demorand explained that she watches his mood changes closely, but that some phases worry her more than others.

“I would say she is more worried when she sees me rev up, going full speed and babbling. I see it in her eyes,” he said.

Conversely, when he goes through a depressive episode and stays on the couch all day, she understands he needs space. “When she sees me lying on the couch all day and understands that things are not going well, she has a very light presence.

She knows I prefer to be alone rather than put on that show, because I am ashamed to be in this state. She waits for it to pass.

Like me,” he continued.

The journalist has also spoken about the impact of his illness on his family life, including his two children, who live with their mother, Louise Tourret. After his hospitalization, he was able to visit them during leave: “Today they live with their mother, right next to Sainte-Anne.

When I got my permissions, as they say, I went to see them. They made me a coffee, it lasted an hour and a half, we chatted…

That is simply part of the landscape.”

This difficult period echoes a particularly serious crisis in November 2025. On November 11, his relatives decided to take him to the Sainte-Anne psychiatric hospital, where he was admitted without his consent.

He was deeply marked by the episode, as he recounted a few months later on France Inter: “I was hurt, I felt my freedom had been cancelled, that I was no longer an adult but a minor.”

He also described the restrictions imposed within the facility: “They took the laces out of my sneakers, I knew I was not allowed to leave.” Looking back, Nicolas Demorand acknowledges: “I was not in a state to make decisions for my own health.” After three weeks of hospitalization, he was able to return home, though he did not immediately regain his balance.
