Penélope Cruz Javier Bardem family life, Digi Mart USA News: Penélope Cruz has opened up about raising her two children in Spain with her husband, Javier Bardem. The actress offered a rare insight into her family life in a new interview with Perfect Magazine.

Penélope and Javier first met on the set of Jamón Jamón in 1992 and began dating after co-starring in 2008’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona. They married in 2010 and welcomed their children, Leo and Luna, in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

In 2013, the couple moved their family from the United States to Madrid to be closer to their Spanish roots. “All our families are there, and the friends from childhood and from our teenage years; it’s easier to have a normal life, you know?” Penélope said.

She added that keeping part of their lives private requires effort, but said it is especially important when raising children. “Later, they can decide what they want to do in terms of their work and everything,” she said.

Penélope explained that her children need freedom and should not be exposed to certain things while they are young.

Javier has previously said that he and Penélope make sure at least one of them is at home to care for their children when the other takes an acting role. He said he turns down roles that would keep him away from his family for more than two weeks.

“I don’t have musts in my contract that have to do with bigger trailers or luxurious suites,” he told Variety. “The only thing I do pay attention to is, no more than two weeks away from my family.”

Javier also praised Penélope, saying, “Penélope is an amazing, beautiful, good human being – the way she relates to her family, to her friends, to our kids, to me, to herself. It’s been a lot of years, and I haven’t seen a hint of malice in her.” He said he feels “blessed” to have had the chance to be in the same place at the same time in life as her.

The couple’s son, Leo, has followed his parents into acting, making his debut in La Bola Negra, a Spanish-language drama.

Meanwhile, Penélope and Javier star as husband-and-wife duo Miguel and Sofia in their new film, Bunker. Written and directed by Florian Zeller, the psychological thriller follows an architect whose marriage is tested after he accepts a project to build a bunker for a billionaire.

At the 2026 Venice Film Festival, the film received a 15.5-minute standing ovation following its screening, during which Penélope broke down in tears as she kissed her husband and co-star.
