Mette-Marit of Norway lung transplant details leaked in book, Digi Mart USA News: A controversy is growing in Norway over a book titled Eventyrnettene, which was published in the Nordic kingdom on November 5, 2026. The book chronicles the national football team’s run at the most recent World Cup and has no apparent connection to the royal family.
According to several media outlets, including Hello magazine, author Alfred Fidjestøl discloses details about the lung transplant Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway underwent in June. In the book, Fidjestøl writes that King Harald V, who died on August 28, 2026 at age 89, had endured several difficult days.
He also states that the Monday before the match against Iraq, Marius Borg Høiby, Mette-Marit’s eldest son, had been sentenced to four years in prison for sexual assault.
Fidjestøl further writes that during the match, his daughter-in-law received a double lung transplant from a donor who had died suddenly in an accident somewhere in the Nordic countries. These details are confidential medical information.
The palace had announced that the crown princess had undergone surgery but had not disclosed the exact date or any information about the donor’s identity.
Professor Are Martin Holm, a member of Mette-Marit’s medical team, strongly condemned the disclosure. Facing the backlash, Fidjestøl said his wording was poorly chosen.
He said he should have written that Mette-Marit had recently undergone an operation, not that it took place on the day of the Norway-Iraq match, adding, “I don’t know that.”
Mette-Marit, who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, was operated on at Oslo’s National Hospital. She has been recuperating and must rest, so she cannot accompany her husband, King Haakon, at official events.
Her mother-in-law, Queen Sonja, and her eldest daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, have stepped in to fill her role.
