Former Crans-Montana World Championships Executive Sentenced by Swiss Court, Digi Mart USA News (Valais, Switzerland): A court has sentenced the former head of the Crans-Montana 2027 World Championships organizing committee to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, and a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs. The conviction is not related to his mandates in sport.

To avoid any confusion, the former vice president of Swiss-Ski had chosen to leave the organizing committee for the 2027 World Championships. He had previously been suspended from both of his positions.

At the trial on October 27, prosecutor Milan Kryka had requested 23 months in prison, suspended for three years, in a case linked to Mr. Schmidhalter’s professional activities at an engineering firm.

In the end, Judge Flurina Steiner acquitted the Upper Valais resident of fraud in connection with a 2020 share sale. However, he was convicted, along with a third party, of disloyal management with intent to enrich themselves.
