The vehicle was first spotted being driven hastily on the Hartelweg in Spijkenisse, and officers decided to stop the driver for a check.

When police followed, the driver accelerated and reportedly reached speeds above 150 kilometers per hour. Officers signaled for the vehicle to stop, but the driver did not comply.

According to the police Oude Maas unit, which posted about the incident on Facebook, the driver drove at high speed across intersections, through a red traffic light and against traffic.

After the chase moved onto a provincial road, the driver turned into the polder, where speeds of more than 130 kilometers per hour were reported. Several additional officers were called in and pursued the car.

The driver then tried to escape by driving into a meadow, but after roughly 300 meters through the grass and mud, the vehicle stopped.

The driver was arrested. A breathalyzer test showed twice the legally permitted amount of alcohol.

The man was fined 1,500 euros and received a driving ban.
