INVI suspends social housing construction in Coyoacán after neighborhood objections, Digi Mart USA News (Parque San Andrés, Coyoacán, Mexico City): Mexico City’s Secretariat of Housing has temporarily suspended construction work on a social housing project of the Institute of Housing (INVI), located at number 70 Calle Inglaterra in the Parque San Andrés neighborhood of the Coyoacán borough, following concerns expressed by local residents.

The agency said the decision was reached by mutual agreement between INVI, the beneficiaries’ collective and the Coyoacán borough government, with the aim of opening dialogue tables to clarify questions, address objections and analyze the project’s development possibilities.

As part of the agreement, suspension seals were placed with the competent verifying authorities as a preventive measure to create the conditions needed for meetings and the building of agreements between the parties involved.

The Secretariat of Housing maintained that the project was designed and developed in accordance with current regulations and rejected claims that work had been carried out without the corresponding authorizations.

It stated that the construction complies with the provisions of the Urban Development Law of Mexico City, the Construction Regulations, the local Housing Law, the INVI Operating Rules and the Environmental Law, among other statutes.

Regarding the fall of a tree recorded early on Thursday, November 5, the agency said the event did not correspond to an intentional felling or to an intervention carried out outside the law. It indicated that, in coordination with the competent environmental authorities, restitution and environmental remediation measures will be determined as appropriate.

The suspension of work will remain in place while dialogue spaces are held, in which the various stakeholders are expected to participate in reviewing residents’ concerns and the conditions of the project.

The Secretariat of Housing stated that the production of social housing is a priority for the capital’s government, while acknowledging that its development must be carried out with respect for regulations and openness to dialogue with neighborhood representatives.
