Iran’s Hardline Regime Turns the Screws on Women With Brutal Hijab Crackdown

Iran hijab crackdown: Iran's rulers are leveraging the country's economic crisis and severe financial fears to compel companies to enforce strict dress codes, resulting in recent firings at a major bank subsidiary and mounting pressure across private and government workplaces.

Iran hijab crackdown, USA News: Iran’s despotic rulers are utilizing the country’s deepening economic crisis to enforce strict hijab rules. With economic sanctions biting and prices spiraling, workers are desperate to stay employed to feed their families. Leaders have taken advantage of these financial fears to instruct company bosses to strictly enforce the Islamic Republic’s dress codes at work. In the past, many businesses had waived these rules, allowing employees to work without head, arm, and leg coverings.

However, as the Iranian government battles to maintain power, authorities are using every available means and threat to keep citizens under their control. Compliance has been strictly demanded at all government organizations, while pressure is also mounting at privately owned businesses. This week, 15 employees lost their jobs at a tech-based subsidiary of major Iranian bank, Bank Pasagard. During a surprise visit by senior bosses, 14 women were dismissed for not wearing a hijab, while one man lost his job for wearing jeans. The chief executive of the firm, the bank’s tech off-shoot POD, was also removed from his post.

Hours later, an internal message circulated warning employees that they would be barred from working if they ignored dress code rules. The notice stated that staff must arrive in mandated attire or face denied entry. Businesses across Iran face similar government pressure to enforce regulations as authorities struggle to retain control.

This represents a sudden shift for many businesses that had previously let dress code rules lapse, with some firms even offering workers one-off cash payments to purchase new clothing. By targeting citizens’ primary sources of income, the government has found a renewed mechanism to enforce state-mandated dress codes and restrict a shift toward western clothing.

A source in southern Iran reported that bosses, particularly those in government roles, are desperate to demonstrate loyalty to the current regime out of fear of repercussions. Officials reportedly want to exhibit utmost loyalty to secure higher positions. The rules target women heavily, who continue to face daily persecution. A local source noted ongoing severe prejudices and family violence related to dress code non-compliance.

Meanwhile, opposition groups expressed widespread depression and hopelessness among ordinary citizens awaiting potential conflict escalation. Diplomatic sources also indicated that the US and Israel are planning additional short and sharp strikes in the coming weeks, with expectations that further attacks could remove the country’s nuclear threat and hardline rulers.
