Carney Chukwuemeka BVB injury concern, Digi Mart USA News (Dortmund, Germany): Borussia Dortmund is bracing for news on Carney Chukwuemeka after the 23-year-old left the pitch during the club’s 2-1 win over SV Elversberg on Saturday, November 7. According to RUHR24, he climbed the stairs from the player tunnel step by step, favoring his left leg on the way to his car.
Chukwuemeka injured himself a little more than half an hour into the match. Without outside contact, he sat down on the grass and grabbed his left thigh.
Shortly afterward he left the field with his head down, and Maximilian Beier came on in his place.
BVB coach Niko Kovac voiced his fear at the post-match press conference: “Carney got injured today. In my opinion he will not travel to the national team because he had muscular problems and has probably also suffered a muscle tear.”
The setback is a bitter one for Chukwuemeka. Since his move from Chelsea to Dortmund, recurring muscular complaints have repeatedly slowed him down.
Recently, however, he had noticeably fought his way back into the team.
Ole Book also spoke openly after the final whistle. “Yes, that is never nice,” he said, adding that this applies to any player who gets hurt.
With Chukwuemeka, he said, there is an extra concern: “With Carney we of course always have concerns.”
Book said the club had not yet received a medical diagnosis. The club leadership now intends to discuss the next steps for the player over the coming two weeks.
The news is also being watched closely in Vienna. Chukwuemeka is an Austrian international, and the Austrian national team faces Ireland and Israel in the Nations League during the international break.
Based on his appearance on Saturday, a call-up appears doubtful.
