Senegal health crisis in northern Kebemer area, Digi Mart USA News (Kebemer, Senegal): Since October 30, 2026, 548 people in the Kebemer area, about 200 kilometers north of Dakar, have been identified as affected by the same symptoms: abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. The exact origin of the illness or toxic infection has not yet been determined.

Analyses are being carried out by the Institut Pasteur, according to Dr. Eladj Mamadou Ndiaye, director of prevention at the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene.

“This is the explanation we are currently looking for: why are people infected at the same time?” he said.

Dr. Ndiaye said the simultaneous infections suggest a common source of contamination, but that source has not yet been identified with precision.

Officials had suspected certain foods or water, but preliminary analyses did not establish that the beverages in question were bacteriologically safe to drink.

Samples have also been taken from some patients, including vomit and stool samples, and are being examined at the Institut Pasteur laboratory. Dr.

Ndiaye noted encouraging aspects of the situation: there are no signs of severity, no deaths have been recorded, and there has been no increase in the number of cases.
