Geneva hotel occupancy rate Switzerland 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Geneva, Switzerland): Despite a difficult year for 2026, hotels in Geneva posted the highest occupancy rate in Switzerland at 64.3%. They placed ahead of Zurich at 63.7% and Lucerne at 50.9%, while the national average stands at 52.2%, according to the Swiss outlet tdg.ch.
Despite these strong figures, the Geneva Hoteliers Association (SHG) pointed to several concerning trends. Overnight stays by visitors from the Gulf countries fell by 12.6% between January and August compared with 2025, while those from Southeast Asia dropped by 18.5%.
Arrivals followed the same trend.
The SHG cited the strong Swiss franc, a heat wave, and international uncertainties, including the conflict in the Middle East. American and European clienteles partially offset these losses, but they spent less.
The average room rate declined mainly in three- and four-star establishments.
Hoteliers also criticized the indirect effects of the G7 summit in Evian, which led to cancellations, security costs, and lower revenue in June. They expressed concern about competition from short-term rentals, which they said represent the equivalent of 20% of Geneva’s hotel supply.
For 2027, the continuation of Emirates flights and the planned expansion of Etihad have fueled hopes for a return of Gulf travelers.
