Princess Charlene of Monaco visits waste management center, Digi Mart USA News (Monaco): Following her speech at the 19th Council of Europe conference of sports ministers in Monaco, Princess Charlene visited a far less glamorous setting on Friday, November 6. The princess, accompanied by her brother Gareth Wittstock and French rugby player Antoine Zeghdar, put on a fluorescent orange high-visibility vest for a tour of the waste consolidation center of the Monegasque sanitation company, the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA).
Images shared on the social media accounts of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco show the princess, who is in mourning following the death of a cousin, posing among maintenance workers. She wore a camel jacket and jeans beneath the vest, with no added formality.
She used the visit to thank the workers for their commitment to the Rock, according to the palace.
The SMA’s teams are responsible for cleaning public roads, collecting household waste, and handling industrial waste, which is treated through incineration. Princess Charlene told the SMA crews, “A big thank you to all of you for your daily work, your discretion and your efficiency.
Thanks to you, Monaco is clean and it is good to live in our beautiful Principality,” according to Monaco-Matin, which reported the visit.
She added: “I am very happy to be with you today and to simply say thank you for everything you do every day.” SMA director Pierre Bardy told the princess that it was a “great honor” for the teams to welcome her. He said the workers play a crucial role in “contributing to Monaco’s international influence,” as stated in the palace’s Instagram post about the visit.
Bardy added: “Many barely see what we do on a daily basis, yet every day before Monaco wakes up or when it falls asleep, our teams are at work. And a clean city is built together.” The SMA will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2028, and its teams will continue this work with a constant ambition, according to the palace: to make Monaco an increasingly clean and welcoming Principality.
