Police said the victim was a 46-year-old man from the municipality of Pekela. He left the road on the Ter Apelerstraat (N976) and collided with a tree.
Police said the driver was “very seriously injured” in the accident on the N976 near Sellingen. No other vehicles were involved, and the car came to a stop against a tree.
Emergency responders were on the scene.
