Andwil Fleeing Car Crash Into Residential Building, Digi Mart USA News (Andwil, St. Gallen, Switzerland): A residential building in the canton of St. Gallen is at risk of collapse following the flight of a 21-year-old driver.
The driver himself suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Shortly after 2:35 a.m., a patrol of the Cantonal Police of St. Gallen attempted to stop a motorist in Gossau.
The driver ignored the police stop request and drove toward Andwil. During the flight, he committed several traffic offenses and drove at a dangerously excessive speed.
Near the Andwil village garage, the man struck the right curb and lost control of his car. The vehicle crossed both lanes, broke through a hedge and then penetrated a house facade.
It came to a stop in the kitchen of the home, according to police images.
The 21-year-old was seriously injured but was able to leave the vehicle on his own. Emergency services treated him on site and then took him to a hospital.
Police spokesperson Markus Rutz told 20 Minuten that two residents who were in the building at the time were unhurt, as they were not in the area affected when the car crashed into the kitchen.
The collision severely damaged the house, which is now at risk of collapse. Before the car could be recovered, the local fire department had to brace the building, and a structural engineer was called to assess it.
The Cantonal Emergency Element of St. Gallen also assisted with the recovery and securing of the site.
The house is no longer habitable, and the municipality of Andwil has arranged emergency housing for the residents.
The amount of property damage has not yet been determined. A blood and urine sample was ordered for the 21-year-old man, and his driver’s license was confiscated.
