Sporting CP vs. Moreirense live Liga Portugal match, Digi Mart USA News (Lisbon, Portugal): Sporting CP welcomes Moreirense to the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon for a Liga Portugal match of major importance to the home team’s title ambitions. Sporting CP enters the match under a new coach. Paulo Fonseca has taken charge of the team after leaving Lyon in a mid-season change that drew harsh criticism from the French club.
He inherits a squad currently in third place in the Liga Portugal and is expected to make a strong early impression before the home crowd.
Sporting’s recent results have been mixed. Two consecutive defeats to LASK in the Champions League and a loss to Académico de Viseu in the Liga Portugal raised doubts, but victories over Casa Pia and Shakhtar Donetsk have restored stability before this league fixture.
Moreirense arrives in ninth place and has shown enough quality in recent weeks to complicate the match for its hosts. Coach Vasco Botelho da Costa’s side has won two of its last five games, and its most recent result was a 2-1 victory over Estrela da Amadora.
The head-to-head record clearly favors Sporting, which has dominated this rivalry in recent seasons. Fonseca hopes to take all three points while working to consolidate his authority at Alvalade.
