Benfica U23 Farense Liga Next Gen match, Digi Mart USA News (Seixal, Portugal): Two days after the official announcement that Benfica’s under-23 team will be disbanded at the end of this season, Benfica defeated Farense 2-0 at Seixal in Matchday 11 of the Liga Next Gen.

The win lifted Benfica past Farense in the standings and into 11th place with 14 points. The match was well contested in the first half, with both goals threatening.

Benfica were the more effective side before halftime and took a lead into the break after Diego Castel-Branco scored in the 33rd minute. Captain Isaac Ferreira provided the assist after a high press won the ball in the final third, and Castel-Branco, free of his marker inside the area, finished the chance.

In the second half, the home side pushed to change the course of the match but again struggled to convert chances. In the 78th minute, Alan Santos made the result certain with Benfica’s second goal.

After a quick transition, Deivid played the ball wide left to substitute Nilson Semedo, whose cross found Santos, wearing the number 9 shirt, at the far post, where he tapped it in.
