ProSiebenSat.1 teletext shutdown, Digi Mart USA News: An era of television is coming to an end, though few viewers are likely to notice. For many, teletext is a pixelated reminder of the early digital age; for others, it was long a reliable source of information.
It will soon be history, at least at ProSiebenSat.1.
The broadcaster group ProSiebenSat.1 has announced that it will completely discontinue its teletext offerings for channels such as ProSieben and Sat.1 in early 2027. The reason given is strikingly candid: viewer interest is practically nonexistent.
According to a company spokesperson, use of the teletext services is tending “toward zero.” Digital platforms such as the Joyn media library have long since established themselves as faster and more comprehensive sources of information, particularly for current TV programming. The decision therefore does not come unexpectedly but is the final step in a process that has been underway for some time, according to a report by DWDL.
Back in early 2025, ProSiebenSat.1 had already drastically reduced its teletext service. Since then, it no longer carried current news, sports results or other service information.
Instead, the relevant pages referred users to online offerings such as ran.de. Only pure program information remained, but apparently even demand for that had recently become too low to justify continuing the service.
An important question for many viewers concerns subtitles, which were previously often accessed via teletext. The broadcaster group clarifies that subtitling is not being eliminated, but the technical access route is changing.
In the future, subtitles can be activated directly through the settings of the television set or receiver. The company says this step toward modern digital delivery follows the approach of other major media companies.
