Ryanair 60-minute baggage drop deadline, Digi Mart USA News: Ryanair will tighten its checked-baggage deadline starting Tuesday, November 10, 2026. Bag-drop desks will close 60 minutes before departure instead of the previous 40 minutes.
The airline says the change is intended to give passengers more time for security and passport checks and to help avoid missed flights.
A Ryanair spokesperson, as quoted by the Independent, confirmed that “from Tuesday, November 10, baggage drop services at all Ryanair airports will close 60 minutes before scheduled departure instead of 40 minutes.” The airline said the change mainly affects travelers who check bags, about 20 percent of Ryanair passengers, giving them more time to pass security and passport queues, which can be longer during busy travel periods.
Passengers without checked baggage must still check in online in advance and can then go directly to security and their departure gate, according to the airline.
Separately, Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary warned, as reported by the Independent, that airfares in Europe could rise significantly. He cited higher fuel costs, fewer available seats, and insolvencies and takeovers in the industry, and predicted fares could increase by up to 20 percent by 2027.
The report also recalled significant delays at passport control for non-Schengen travelers over the summer. At Lanzarote, 89 passengers were left behind at the airport.
On a Ryanair flight from Tours-Val de Loire to Marrakesh, the aircraft departed without 24 registered passengers, who were still stuck in security and customs checks; the pilot took off without them to keep his takeoff slot.
The delays are linked to the European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated IT system for registering travelers from non-EU countries. It was introduced in stages between October 12, 2025, and April 10, 2026, replacing manual passport stamping with digital capture of biometric data, such as facial images and fingerprints, at entry and exit in the Schengen Area.
