Toyota Strengthens Its Lead in Mexico’s Shift to Sustainable Mobility

Toyota electrified vehicle sales Mexico: Toyota Electrified Vehicle Sales Mexico: Toyota has sold more than 250,000 electrified vehicles in Mexico since launching hybrids in 2010, now offering twelve electrified models and a first plug-in hybrid, with 45.6% of its latest monthly volume electrified.

Toyota electrified vehicle sales Mexico, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Electrification of the automotive sector does not necessarily mean vehicles that plug into a traditional electrical outlet. Several clean technologies use electric energy to power a car, which explains the growing advance of these alternatives in the country.

Japanese automaker Toyota began this global journey in 1997 with the launch of the iconic Prius model in the Japanese market, becoming the first hybrid-powered vehicle produced at mass scale worldwide.

The technology reached Mexico in 2010, and since then the company has diversified its lineup to offer twelve electrified models in the national territory, recently adding its first variant capable of connecting to the electrical grid.

From that initial introduction through the end of September 2026, more than 250,000 units of this type have been sold, which the company says has allowed a substantial environmental reduction by avoiding about 1.9 million tons of polluting emissions.

Commercial figures clearly reflect the progress of technology adoption in the automotive market, with more than 94,000 units sold so far this year.

During the most recent month reported, more than 10,000 total units were sold, of which 4,654 corresponded to models with electric assistance, representing exactly 45.6% of the brand’s monthly volume.

The company’s global strategy includes four pillars of technological development designed to adapt to the infrastructure and urban driving habits of each region.

Conventional hybrid models combine a combustion engine with an auxiliary electric generator that recovers energy through regenerative braking without requiring connection to external power outlets.

Plug-in models, by contrast, integrate a higher-capacity energy pack that allows trips to be made fully electrically before the gasoline engine activates.

Finally, 100% battery-electric options and fuel cell vehicles powered by molecular hydrogen complete the zero-emissions vision, where the only byproduct is water vapor.
