Nice kindergarten attack suspect had prior radicalization file and deportation order, Digi Mart USA News (Nice, France): A woman suspected of attacking the director and a teacher at a kindergarten in Nice has a heavy judicial record, according to information reported by France Inter. She reportedly had an S file for Islamist radicalization and had been expelled under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) before returning to France.
A mother of a pupil, aged 36, has been held in police custody since Monday after being arrested for the morning attack at the Roissal kindergarten in Nice. An investigation for attempted murder has been opened by the Nice Judicial Police, and investigators are still searching for the weapon used.
According to France Inter, the suspect has two prior convictions, in 2019 and 2023. She declared two nationalities, Tunisian and Italian, and was known to the Territorial Intelligence services.
Her S file, which was active years ago for Islamist radicalization, has not been active since 2024.
The suspect was subject to an OQTF, was expelled, and later returned to France. She was then reportedly involved in networks smuggling undocumented migrants between France and Italy, and was placed under house arrest.
The Nice prosecutor’s office said her police custody has been extended.
According to the publisher, on Monday morning around 9 a.m., the woman entered the school and urgently asked to see the director. Once in the office, she pulled out a firearm and threatened the director for about an hour, mimicking Russian roulette, slapped her and pulled her hair.
She claimed one of her children had been the victim of a sexual assault.
The publisher reported that the Nice prosecutor was expected to provide details on the suspect’s administrative status. The national education minister has filed a complaint and is expected to visit the site at the end of the week.
