Puebla security operations for trucks on the Mexico-Veracruz highway, Digi Mart USA News (Puebla, Mexico): The state Public Security Secretariat (SSP) has launched surveillance and direct escort operations for drivers and tractor-trailers traveling on the Mexico-Veracruz highway. The goal is to reduce robberies and assaults while vehicles cross Puebla territory.
The strategy targets the Tlahuapan to Esperanza section, where criminal groups are reported to operate to steal goods and vehicles bound for the country’s southeast.
The plan involves the National Guard, the National Defense Secretariat, the Secretariat of the Navy, the state police and regional municipalities, along with ongoing dialogue with representatives of the Mexican Alliance of Transport Organizations (Amotac) in the state.
According to the agency, the agreements with Amotac include increased operational presence at strategic points and patrols on priority stretches: from Puebla city to Tlahuapan, at the boundaries with the State of Mexico and Tlaxcala, and from Amozoc to Esperanza, along the border with Veracruz.
The SSP also confirmed that, if companies or drivers affiliated with Amotac request it, the state police will provide support, surveillance and escort mechanisms for the transport of goods.
Amotac reports that from January to September 2026 its members filed 882 complaints with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Puebla over cargo transport robberies. The Alliance said 94 percent of those cases involved violence against the driver.
The state government recently arrested the mayors of Esperanza and Tepeyahualco, Isaac N. and Said de Jesús N., over alleged links to cargo transport robberies in their territories.
The poultry sector in the Tehuacán area reports that no criminal incidents on highways have been recorded in 2026. Local association president Jorge García de la Cadena Romero said this may be the result of security measures, monitoring equipment and liaison with police agencies.
Poultry drivers have been trained to alert emergency dispatch if a situation threatens their cargo or their lives.
Transport groups have recently said they have been victims of criminals on the Puebla-Veracruz highway, including in the Esperanza and Palmar stretches and on the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca road, among others. Poultry producers do not rule out that offenses are still occurring and say they coordinate with police to receive rapid assistance.
With the National Guard now stationed a few meters from toll booth 76 in Tehuacán, the sector hopes response times on the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca superhighway will be quicker than when units were based in places such as Tepanco de López.
The producer recalled that in past years drivers were shot at from other vehicles and beaten after being stopped, and trailers were later found abandoned without their cargo, a situation that discouraged the transport of goods. In response, the sector has adopted new protocols and institutional coordination and invested in satellite locators and radio communication equipment to prevent further losses.
