Nuevo León climate change strategic program, Digi Mart USA News (Nuevo León, Mexico): The government of Nuevo León presented progress on its state climate change program, an initiative that integrates seven strategic axes designed to address the effects of global warming in the state. The announcement was made by Secretary of the Environment Raúl Lozano Caballero, who stressed the importance of interinstitutional collaboration in reaching the stated goals.
According to authorities, developing the plan required a joint effort among 17 state agencies. The central objective of this coordination is to build a state that is more sustainable and resilient to current environmental challenges.
New low-emission public transport units were introduced to reduce the state’s carbon footprint.
Seven strategic axes for sustainability and environmental care
Among the results presented, authorities highlighted actions aimed at optimizing resources and improving urban infrastructure. The master plan rests on seven key points: efficient use of water, through optimization and comprehensive care of water resources; low-emission public transport, through expansion of a sustainable, non-polluting urban mobility network; and urban reforestation, through systematic increases in green areas across the state’s municipalities.
The remaining axes cover support for clean industries, promoting production processes with a smaller carbon footprint; waste valorization and biomethane, transforming organic waste into clean energy sources; conservation of species and biodiversity, through active protection of local ecosystems and wildlife; and solar energy and energy efficiency, strengthening the use of solar panels and energy savings across sectors.
Officials said the main results include actions to improve water use, expand low-emission public transport, reforest urban areas, make Nuevo León greener, promote clean industries, and convert organic waste into biomethane.
Public health, social welfare and climate resilience
The program also addresses health and well-being, integrating specific health prevention strategies linked to the environment. Authorities reported substantial progress in containing vector-borne diseases, as well as the implementation of vaccination campaigns and programs focused on improving housing.
State health brigades are applying preventive measures against vector-transmitted diseases in vulnerable neighborhoods, with the aim of addressing poor air quality that the state had experienced previously.
The state government said it will maintain this coordinated work to strengthen environmental protection and ensure a more sustainable future. It reaffirmed its commitment to keeping this coordinated framework in place with the goal of consolidating environmental protection and ensuring safer, more sustainable living conditions for the population of Nuevo León over the long term.
