Nayarit kidnapping plot targeting nine doctors, Digi Mart USA News (Nayarit, Mexico): Nayarit State Prosecutor Ludmila Heredia said an investigation identified a criminal group that allegedly planned to kidnap nine doctors. In an interview with media, the official said the kidnappers sought to deprive the physicians of their freedom because they had the financial means to pay a ransom.
Heredia said investigators determined that the kidnappers came from a state in northern Mexico, not Nayarit, and carried a list of nine doctors to abduct. The discovery followed a complaint by a surgeon who reported a kidnapping attempt, allowing authorities to investigate and detain four people, all of whom are reportedly from northern Mexico.
“The idea was for people to understand: members of organized crime wounded, or to extract money. These are prominent doctors who are economically able to pay for these kidnappings,” she said.
The prosecutor said seized cellphones allowed authorities to learn of the existence of the list of possible victims. “That is precisely why we know they had another list.
There are seized cell phones and data extraction under way,” she said.
Heredia also noted that an earlier kidnapping attempt had targeted an engineer, in which authorities detained several alleged perpetrators.
