Marcos González de la Peña Spain amputee football World Cup, Digi Mart USA News (San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico): Marcos González de la Peña will once again wear the shirt of the Spanish national team. The athlete, born in Jerez de la Frontera and based in Tarifa, has been called up to compete in the amputee football World Cup, which will be held from November 13 to 22 in San Juan de los Lagos, in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
The player from Flamencos Amputados Sur is part of the squad selected by national coach Manuel Pacheco for a competition that will bring together 24 national teams. The call-up offers a new opportunity to represent Spain on the sport’s highest international stage, following two European runner-up finishes, in Kraków in 2021 and Évian in 2024.
The Tarifa municipal sports department congratulated him on the selection, highlighting the achievement of an athlete closely tied to the town. González de la Peña lost his right leg at age eight in an accident.
He went on to try several disciplines and won multiple Spanish swimming championships during his youth, and he also competed in alpine skiing before establishing himself in amputee football.
He holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences and works as a physical education teacher, teaching at the IES Almadraba de Tarifa high school, where he shares his experience with students in a higher-level sports coaching program. Outside competition, he completed the CIMA project, a four-day crossing of the Sierra Nevada peaks on crutches, carrying his own equipment without logistical support.
He also regularly gives talks on sport, education and personal resilience.
Now, the challenge takes him to Mexico, where he will compete for Spain and carry the name of Tarifa to a tournament featuring the best international national teams.
